About Us

I cannot talk about KALOSOMA without thinking of my grandfather. When we were children, he would take us on excursions to the countryside on weekends My grandfather was an entomologist (scientists who studies insects); we would leave towards the forest early in the morning in search of insects, each one of us with a jar in our hands. He talked about Spain where he was born, also fascinating stories about scientists who wrote articles in the magazine founded by him and his father. He taught us the scientific names of insects, its particularities, how to prepare them for study. He was a man who spread his enthusiasm for adventure and discovery. When we found a beetle we ran to show him the jewel that we had found, a jewel of nature. When I began to make jewelry not as hobby any more, but like a small business, I realized that I needed a name or a logo so I decided to use the scarab as a symbol, to represent my brand. I made a drawing of a small beetle that with its front legs hang on every piece of jewelry I designed. At that time, I only had a symbol and I needed a name. That came later, I chose Kalosoma. It is a name of an insect. The word KALOSOMA has Greek - Latin roots it means, "calo" beautiful "soma " body; beautiful body, it is an insect that has a very shapely body not like the shape of the insect of my logo.

I think that all things in nature are beautiful we all are beautiful bodies. The name refers to the person, to the jewel, to the stone and to the insect.
I also have to mention how fortunate I feel to live in my wonderful and beautiful country; Mexico. The colors of Mexico are my inspiration, the handcrafts, the sense of art and balance. The wonderful artisans I work with. The delicacy of their working hands, the loyalty and nobility of their spirit and their culture

The artistic concept of KALOSOMA is based on the use of many different artisan techniques applied to the design of casual and modern jewelry. Every piece is hand made and there for unique. My proposal is not a jewel or an accessory, it is a life style.
I use natural materials, like leather, fabrics, semi precious and precious stones, gold, silver and platinum and the use of different technique that alter there appearance. Hand work, and stones mostly hand cut, the engineering of each jewel projects the luxury of being hand made.
It is interesting to see how every person chooses there own combination making the result completely original!! The combination of each model with the different colors, stones, and textures give as a result the opportunity for the customer to make their own design.
